I’ve been pretty good at following my New Year’s resolutions so far. I didn’t write them down this year, I just have a couple in mind that I want to focus on – eating healthier, more balanced and nutritious meals, trying to get outside more and run/hike/anything–  I have to admit I’ve been a little complacent these days and it’s driving me crazy!! The minute I got pregnant I completely changed my eating habits, which has been great. Lennox eats incredibly well; let’s just say that! I on the other hand, had been neglecting myself a little bit eating his leftovers for lunch or a protein bar, string cheese perhaps… Anyway, my point is I found a way for both of us to have a nutritious addition to our breakfast, lunch, snack or even dessert! The FAGE Total Split Cups strawberry flavor is the one Lennox and I have been enjoying lately. I started buying the FAGE Total 2% after my pediatrician said to move Lennox to 2% milk from whole milk. It’s what I eat, so it makes it easy to just grab a bunch and throw them in the cart at my grocery store. When Lennox was first born I put probiotics in his milk, but now that he’s a little older, I love that I can give him this all-natural Greek strained yogurt which provides all of those healthy benefits AND is a delicious treat. This post is basically centered around my Vans. I’ve been wanting them for a while now, at first so I could match with Lennox. LOL! But then when I tried them on and when they were super comfy I was totally stoked! I’ve been wearing them almost every day and they truly make me feel super cool! Which I’m realizing actually sounds pretty dorky!😝 I know it’s cheesy, but my skater chick shoes make me feel like a totally hip mommy! So what do you think was the first thing my husband said when I bought the shoes? He told me I had to learn how to skateboard. He was kidding, but I’m up for the challenge so I took him up on it and I got on the board. Well, let’s backtrack. I decided to sit on it and basically slid off the bottom and almost landed on my head but my butt caught me.😳 LOL. Once I got up the nerve to actually stand up on it, I have to say I did pretty well. I let go of the death grip I had on the wall and I let the wheels roll. I have a pretty good center of gravity from all my dance and yoga, but balancing on something with wheels that is moving makes it totally different. I sucked in my core, threw my arms out to the side and prayed I wouldn’t break an ankle. Needless to say, I’m a badass skater mom chick now! Totes bragging!😎 I don’t want any of us to say we are too old to try something new. That’s bullshit. Put on your cool shoes, whatever they might be, try something new and kick ass at it! I may not be an every day skateboarding young thing, but I’m a mom who has vans and can balance on a skateboard! Mission accomplished.

You ever find yourself completely burnt out? I’m talking emotionally, physically, spiritually… That’s where I’m at right now and I need to figure this out. Baby steps. I know there are so many things that would help me… Going to bed earlier, finding time to squeeze in a yoga class, meditate, stretching my body, trying to find time to read and most importantly, be fully in the moment with my son. There are ways to help get back on track and I’m going to take these baby steps. What do you do when you feel burnt out? Especially when you have very limited time to yourself? My go to used to be a sweaty yoga class but I just find it difficult to make that happen these days- for many reasons. I love my time with Lennox and I feel guilty breaking away. I know! I know… I know that sounds silly… The guilt is just really bad especially when class would be over $60 once you pay the sitter and for the actual class! So it’s just easier to pass on it and just find alternative ways to get centered. All that being said, I must get better at this… Would love to hear what y’all have to say and how you find the time and balance.

Sorry, not sorry… What does that mean to you? Well, I bought this hat because I’m just getting tired of apologizing for certain things, like speaking my mind or having an opinion. For having a bad day, or a good day, or for actually being happy- maybe around someone who is in a funk or always in a funk…  I find that a lot of times people don’t like when you share your opinion if it doesn’t match their’s. I guess I just don’t have time for BS anymore is what I’m saying. What do I even mean by that? Well, my family is number one. Raising a happy and healthy child is the most important thing to me. Don’t get me wrong, I still get way in my head and marinate on stupid shit often, but that is exactly my point, and that is exactly what I am starting to tackle. I find that I let things go a lot quicker than I used to, and if I don’t gel with someone then I don’t gel with someone and it’s ok. It’s not the end of the world and quite honestly, there are so many good people out there that if someone doesn’t like your honesty then it’s OK. I will always apologize and be sorry if I have done someone wrongly, of course, but what I’m talking about is that, “Oh I’m so sorry! Oh I’m so sorry for this and I’m so sorry for that” BS. I’m talking about being an, “I’m sorry” person. Are you that person? Have you done that? Do you do that? I just don’t want to be the, “I’m sorry” girl anymore. It’s like someone who overuses, “I love you.” So as I commit to my truth, and speaking my mind in a confident way, I promise to be held accountable for my actions and the type of person I’m being. I would rather someone always be honest with me versus sugarcoat. I guess I view “I’m sorry” as a version of sugarcoating and who has time for that anymore? Let’s just lay it all out there and be real with each other and be happy. Right?! Anyway, sorry,  not sorry! Lol🤣 And who doesn’t want to wear a cute pink trucker hat anyway?! Boy does this feel amazing… I wish I could say this is what a normal day looks like. Yoga on the grass, birds chirping all while I’m finding my zen, BUT I’d be lying. This is a rare moment, folks! I hardly get on my hands anymore and it’s a bummer, but nothing compares to spending my days with my mini best friend. The things I used to look at as sacrifices, don’t even come close to feelings of missing out anymore. There are many nights where I am able to go to yoga, but I choose to stay home and have dinner with my husband and Lennox- AND have some vino😉🍷. That never would have happened pre baby. You could say I had a “slight” addiction to yoga. My practice was growing and I loved seeing my progress along with it being the greatest workout for my body, mind and spirit. I miss that aspect- quieting my mind and going within. Getting in the “zone.” I rarely meditate, I hardly ever stretch anymore and I go to yoga 3 times a month if I’m lucky. I know I should make time for myself and I will, it’s just my priorities have completely shifted. I am proud to say that what used to be so incredibly important to me is now on the back burner. I will turn up the heat when the time is right. Soon, I will grant myself this gift soon. Until then, I will continue to go on walks and sing with Lennox. I will jog with the jogger and Len and we will rock out to 80’s jams! We will have dance parties at home and I will carry his almost 28lb body up and down stairs all day! I’m sure I’ll get in the “zone” doing all of that, right?! I’m surely to find my zen this way 😂

Oh motherhood! I wouldn’t change this for the world. You da best 🖐🏻

I run because I love🍟🍟🍟

…And I LOVE 🍕🌮🍔🍳🌯🥘🍦🍿

So I run!!! I put on my running shoes and take off with the jogging stroller so I can eat all my favorite foods! That’s not the ONLY reason I run. LOL! As I wrote about the other day, I know it’s “good” for me. It’s good for my mind, body, soul, health, pretty much it’s just really good for me LOL. It’s also my escape😉 My time to get outside with Lennox and just “be.” BUT I love to eat. I love healthy foods, but I also love fried stuff, IN MODERATION…

So, I got really into french fries when I was pregnant, and my cravings have continued ever since. I’ve started making my own fries at home.🍟 Let’s be honest, they’re not as delicious as the greasy fried ones you get with a burger at a restaurant. But if you cut the potatoes thin enough and coat them with olive oil and salt then bake them in the oven until they’re crispy, they’re pretty damn good! I’ve been experimenting with sweet potatoes and regular potatoes and I have to say they do not disappoint! They are also a great addition to a meal for Lennox.

I know I’ve talked about the benefits of exercise before, but I feel that it’s important enough that I want to talk about it again. I haven’t exercised much the past two weeks and I’m down about it. I’m definitely feeling it in my body and my mood and I need to get back into it. I know I’m smiling in these photos but I’m not smiling as I write this. When I don’t exercise I have a lot of pent up energy and I don’t know where to use it. It manifests in my body in knots and sore muscles, sometimes my legs cramp up. I can tell I’m not sleeping as well which also sets the tone for my day. When I exercise and exert that energy I sleep like a baby. Or I should say like my husband. He knows how to sleep!

Sometimes it’s literally like pulling teeth to get me out of the house to go to a yoga class or to put on my running shoes and just take off with the jogging stroller. Wait, let me back up, yoga barely happens much anymore. I’m on mom duty 24/7 (which is the best job I could ever dream of) needless to say yoga is a luxury these days. I went twice last month.🤸🏻‍♀️WooHoo! I used to go 4 to 5 times a week and now I realize I totally took that for granted. It’s amazing how different my body feels these days. My back hurts so much these days. I wonder why? 🤔Oh ya, because I carry 27lbs up and down stairs all day! 😂I guess you can say my exercise regimen is “slightly” different than it used to be. Ha. Maybe I’m just a weightlifter🏋🏻now! Ok, but seriously, I’m going to make myself get outside today and run!! 🏃🏻‍♀️ I’m going to do it. Who’s with me?!

When I get stressed I want to run, literally and figuratively. It’s too easy for me to just turn within and avoid whatever it is that’s going on and hibernate. It’s much more difficult for me to tackle my problems head-on. Do you sometimes feel the same way? Quieting that voice in our heads isn’t always easy, but once we manage it, I’m convinced we will be so much happier. One of the ways I’m learning to quiet my mind and go with the flow, is to get outside and run. I lather Lennox and I up with sunscreen, grab my water bottle, put him in the jogging stroller, turn on some music and just go! He loves it! I’ll stop every few minutes to take a peek at him and he’s usually looking around, playing with some of his toys in the stroller and enjoying the fresh air. Most of the time towards the end of the run he will take a snooze and sometimes he’s awake the entire time. Either way, I know my son is getting fresh air and using his senses. He smells the freshly cut grass, the fragrant flowers, he feels the breeze on his face and the warmth of the sun shining. He hears the music and is singing his own little tune😊 Meanwhile, I’m doing something really good for my body AND my mind and I’m doing something wonderful for my son as well. Together we are both benefiting from getting out of the house, into our neighborhood and exploring. Now, you don’t have to go for a run- I do because I like to EAT FRIES, you don’t even have to go for a walk, although I would encourage you to. Just get outside!! Grab a blanket and take your baby to the park and enjoy rolling around in the shade. We also did that last week and it was so much fun! It’s amazing how therapeutic getting outside can be, at least for me. And if you want to go running, do it! It has truly helped me get my body back to a place where I’m comfortable in my clothes again. It increases my serotonin level when I exercise and has really helped me feel better about myself and stay centered. Whatever exercise you choose to do, just commit! And if you’re not ready to commit just yet that’s fine too 👊🏻 Think about it tomorrow 😉

I’d like to think of myself as a #Coolmom! LOL!! I mean that’s what my mug says anyway. I’m glad you are here and entering in the giveaway for my sweet baby boy‘s birthday. I’m really enjoying celebrating a whole week dedicated to Lennox and the miracle of his birth! I got a little teary last night thinking of him turning one today. Wow, BIRTHday has a whole new meaning for me. I don’t think I’ve ever loved another human being the way I love my son. “Me” time, and how I actually make time for it… Well, obviously as a new mom, my life has shifted drastically just like all of yours have. I used to be an incredibly active person. Physical fitness has always been very important to me and it still is, but nowadays I have to try and squeeze it in to tiny windows of time. The best part about this new shift, is I’m totally OK with it because we have Lennox. That being said, I’ve gone from running or hiking daily to 1 to2 times a week, and taking yoga 5 to 6 times a week to once or twice every two weeks if I’m lucky. I remember when I got pregnant I was really worried about losing my yoga practice. It’s funny looking back on what was so important to me then. 🙈 Now I’d rather stay home in the evenings and spend time with my family, help give Lennox a bath and put him to bed. Yes, I miss going to yoga all the time, but nothing compares to hanging out with my baby boy, my little best friend.

How do I make time for me when I’m a full-time mom, wife, working actress, new blogger😉 ? Well, it’s not easy! As I’m sure it’s not easy for you, either. I don’t have some brilliant advice, nor do I ever claim to! HA! But, I do know how important it is for me to have “me” time. Just like I know it’s important for you to have “you” time. I do cherish my yoga classes and that hour and a half where I can focus on my body, my breathing and my own health- it helps me stay centered. I put so much focus into nourishing Lennox with organic and healthy foods, playtime, getting outside so he can get fresh air and explore the world, along with making sure he plays with friends and socializes. But, if I’m not healthy in my mind, body and spirit, I won’t be of much use to my son. I won’t be able to be fully present to his needs and wants if I’m an anxious mess all the time. I know this from experience. When Lennox was first born, there was a dramatic shift in our lives (obviously) and it was very hard for me emotionally and physically… I had challenging postpartum depression that was crippling me. Now that I’m out of that space, and can look back, I realize taking care of myself helps me take care of my son. I know this could come off as selfish, BUT, we have to remember that we are important too. We need to keep our bodies healthy and strong so we can be here for our children. We need to eat healthy foods, try our best to exercise and stretch our bodies. It’s proven that serotonin is released when you exercise, and it’s key to mood regulation. I found a wonderful article that goes into depth and explains that, “serotonin, which is produced by long-term cardio exercise, decreases depression.”

So cheers to healthy, happy lives! Take just a little bit of time for yourself and remember to be kind to yourself too!
