How I’m learning to be a more “confident” parent.πŸ™ŒπŸ»

March 22, 2017

I’ve been reading a lot lately and I love this book called, The Confident Parent, by Dr. Jane Scott. In her book, Jane explains the importance of taking care of yourself as well as your children. She’s lived all over the world and has raised children on different continents and likes to incorporate other cultures into her philosophy. As a pediatrician, she says that she treats her parents almost more than she treats the children coming in who are ill. She says the parents she’s met during her 20 years working as a pediatrician need a lot of love, attention and reassurance. When I suffered with postpartum depression, it was Lennox’s pediatrician who really pushed me to take a look at it. To take a look at getting help. I definitely recommend this book. This is not a sales pitch, it’s just something I’ve found to be helpful and that makes me feel better so I knew I had to share…

I still struggle with mom guilt and have been looking for something to help me make sense of my feelings. Dr. Jane Scott goes into detail regarding her philosophies on this widespread topic as well. As I’m sitting here writing this blog, Lennox is battling an ear infection, coughing up a storm and just got over a very high fever. His first one ever. So you can imagine how worried I’ve been. I realize it’s always going to be something- teething, colds, falling and hitting their heads, along with later down the line puberty and girlfriends/boyfriends OMG! My goal is to take care of my babies, myself and my loved ones, AND go with the flow! I’m glad we are on this journey together! I’m so grateful for this forum and the advice and support we’ve been able to give each other. I urge you to continue to share your knowledge and advice and to support all of us parents who come here to unite for the love of our littles. They deserve the best version of ourselves to guide them and show them the way. So let’s continue to be each others guides and supporters. That’s why I started this blog in the first place!

Cheers! To support, happiness and our babes πŸ₯‚πŸ‘«πŸ‘«πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘ΆπŸΌ

This can’t be emphasised enough that in order to give the best to our babies, we have to be the best of ourselves . Mom guilt makes us feel as though putting ourselves first is bad mothering but taking care of ourselves actually enables us to take care of them. I suffered pretty severe PPD myself and one thing that’s helped me immensely is taking a few hours a week out just for me while hubby takes care of baby . I go to a cafe, or grocery shopping or just for a walk …It refreshes my mind and recharges my battery and i can give my son a mom who has energy and positivity .

Amy, it’s so great reading your blog. My boy is 4 months old and I was diagnosed with post partum anxiety. It really has caused some issues for me, but I am getting the help I need.

Love seeing you grow as a mom and your little boy getting cuter by the day. Thanks for sharing your journey. It really is keeping me positive and enjoying the mom life more!
