The book, “Oh The Places You’ll Go” that we are reading, was given to me in 2003 by my girlfriend. Thank you, Jen! I was thrilled to add it to Lennox’s book collection. Opening the cover and reading Jen’s beautiful note and then reading the book to my son, made me realize how universal the message is…
Dr. Seuss has a way of appealing to children and children “at heart.” Lennox doesn’t know the meaning behind this book quite yet- that he can do ANYTHING he’d like to do and what his journey ahead will bring. Right now, he’s obsessed with the pictures and colors on these pages and it’s his go to a couple times a day! I get a tad bit animated when I read, so he knows when there’s excitement or silliness, and when there’s danger and sadness. As Lennox gets older he will understand more that Dr. Seuss also writes about how the road can be bumpy and there may be lows along with great highs. “Oh The Places You’ll Go,” makes me tear up at certain parts because I know Lennox will have challenging times and moments when he’s confused and feeling helpless. As a mother, that rips my hear out. I also know that’s part of growing up and becoming the man he will someday be. Wow, my baby boy will be a man someday… Hard to wrap my head around that. 🙈 This book resonates with me as I’ve had incredibly high highs and the lowest of lows to match it. It doesn’t matter that this is a children’s book, the message still remains.
May you always remember that anything is possible and it’s NEVER TOO LATE!!
